The below table shows the resistance of PPVC (plasticized polyvinyl chloride), nylon, polyester, low density polyethylene and polyurethane to a wide range of chemicals.
Applied scale:
Satisfactory resistance Moderate resistance - it is possible that the material will suffer damage as a result of contact with the substance or that it will absorb the substance. The material can be used only if there is no other alternative or a short-term use is enough. Attention: It is necessary to conduct tests under conditions of actual use! Unsatisfactory resistance - it is possible that decomposition, damage, melting, absorption or delamination will occurIn case of some materials the resistance to a given chemical substance was evaluated on the basis of its resistance to similar substances. In such cases next to the resistance index there is an asterisk (*).
It can be assumed that chemical resistance decreases with the increase in temperature and in the concentration of the chemical. The reverse is also true.
The direction of the change of resistance cannot be assumed if the rates of temperature and concentration of the chemical change in opposite directions (the temperature increases while the concentration decreases and the other way round).
If a given substance shows a moderate resistance to a given chemical, it cannot be used under conditions other than those presented in the table.
refers to chemical resistance of polyurethane protectors or composite protectors coated with polyurethane. Due to hydrolysis polyurethane is not recommended for use when there is a continuous contact with water of temperatures above 40°C (or solutions which contain water of such temperatures).ATTENTION: The information in the table is purely illustrative and should not be treated as a sole selection factor of materials for protection against a given chemical. It is recommended to conduct tests under conditions of actual use and consult a specialist.
